PC Performance Error Messages


If you are receiving error messages when trying to launch or play Call of Duty: Ghosts, be sure to check the following tips:

Minimum system requirements
Make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements.
 
Up-to-date drivers
Make sure that you have the latest video and sound drivers from the manufacturers' website. Links to common video and sound manufacturer websites are listed below:

 
Background applications
All background applications should be shut down prior to running the game:
  1. Go to the Start bar and select Run. If you are on Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, hit the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
  2. Type msconfig in the Run window and hit Enter.
  3. Once the utility comes up, go to the Startup tab and hit the Disable All button.
  4. Go to the Services tab and check the Hide All Microsoft Services box and hit Disable All.
  5. Hit OK and close the utility. Restart your computer when prompted.
Note: This method will shut down all background applications including virus scanning software. If later on you decide you want to re-enable programs that were closed down, you can undo these changes by unchecking the Hide All Microsoft Services and hitting Enable All on both the Startup and Services tabs.

Textures
By default, Call of Duty: Ghosts will automatically choose the highest textures. If high textures are overloading your CPU and graphics card, turn the textures down to low/normal.

Image Quality
As mentioned before, Call of Duty: Ghosts will automatically select graphics options, often up-scaling them. You can increase your graphics quality by setting the graphics card's Image Quality setting to Extra.

Resolution/Aspect Ratio
Your PC may be set to display at the maximum resolution or aspect ratio. Adjusting these down can help improve performance.

Laptop PCs
Please be sure that you have tried the tips above before continuing.

If you are playing the game on a laptop PC that meets the minimum requirements and are still getting that error, that indicates that your computer is not utilizing the more powerful, discrete graphics card to run the game. Please try the steps below for help:
  1. Plug in the laptop — This can sometimes resolve the issue, as some laptops will not use the more powerful graphics unless it is plugged in.
  2. Adjust the Power Options from the Control Panel — Your laptop may be set to save power, and that would block the more powerful graphics from being used. Follow these steps to adjust those settings:
    1. Hold down the Windows key (in the lower-left of your keyboard, next to Ctrl) and press R, then type Control Panel in the Open box.
    2. Click on Power Options to bring up the power-saving settings.
    3. Select Performance, or click on Change plan settings to manually adjust the settings so the discrete graphics card is enabled.
    4. Save the settings and restart your laptop so they take effect.
  3. Go to the Laptop manufacturer's website to download and install the latest video driver — If the previous steps did not help, you may need a specific video driver for your laptop that can only be provided by the manufacturer. The latest driver may provide certain options in the NVIDIA Control Panel or the AMD Catalyst Control Center that will resolve the issue.
