Crash or Freeze Occurs on a PC Version of Game

 
  • Make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements
  • Make sure that you have the latest video and sound drivers from the manufacturers' website. Links to common video and sound manufacturer websites are listed below:

  • All background applications should be shut down prior to running the game:
  1. Go to the Start bar and select Run. If you are on Vista or Windows 7, hit the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
  2. Type "msconfig" in the Run window and hit Enter.
  3. Once the utility comes up, go to the Startup tab and hit the Disable All button.
  4. Go to the Services tab and check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox and hit the Disable All button.
  5. Hit the "OK" button and close the utility. Restart your computer when prompted.
Note: This method will shut down all background applications including you virus scanning software. If later on you decide you want to re-enable programs that were closed down, you can undo these changes by un-checking the "Hide All Microsoft Services" and hitting "Enable All" on both the Startup and Services tabs.
  • Turn the hardware acceleration for your sound card to Basic:
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Control Panel
  4. Double click the Multimedia icon.
  5. Click the Audio tab.
  6. Click the Advanced Properties button in the Playback section.
  7. Click the Performance tab.
  8. Reduce the Hardware acceleration to Basic.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click OK both times when prompted.
  11. Run the game. Don't forget to turn the acceleration back up to restore the high-end features for your sound card when using other applications.
Windows XP
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Control Panel
  4. Double click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon.
  5. Click the Volume tab.
  6. Click the Advanced button located under the Speakers setting.
  7. Click the Performance tab.
  8. Reduce the Hardware acceleration to Basic.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click OK both times when prompted.
  11. Run the game. Don't forget to turn the acceleration back up to restore the high-end features for your sound card when using other applications.
Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not have Sound Acceleration. Sound Acceleration will always appear as Basic in DXDIAG.
