Guitar Hero Live Rivals Arena FAQ

Check this article for all the details on the new GHL Rivals Arena

As of December 1, 2018, the GHTV mode within Guitar Hero Live will no longer be available to play. On that date, we will terminate the service for GHTV and servers will be shut down. Console versions of the GH Live mode will continue to operate as usual.

Additionally, on June 1, 2018, all GHTV in-game purchases will be turned off. Players can continue to use their Hero Cash and items on hand until the GHTV sunset date of December 1, 2018.

The Rivals Arena is a seasonal version of Rival Challenges with divisional rankings and leaderboards. The basic gameplay is similar to a Rival Challenge, however you’ll be matched up with 9 challengers from within your Division where victories allow you to climb in the Divisions.

This is a special dedicated mode. You can only enter the Rivals Arena from the new Rivals Arena option in the GHTV menu. The Rivals Arena lets you play in Channels 1 and 2 against another player in Rival Challenges for Win Tokens that allow you to move up the Divisions. As in the regular Rival Challenge, competitions will be interspersed between ordinary sessions of songs.

Each Arena season lasts about one month, after which players are reset to compete again.

Divisions are a ranking system that acts as both a matchmaking guide and a status reward for players. Everyone begins in Division 20, the lowest Division. The goal for the player is to climb the Division ranks from 20 to 1, the top rank.

Each time you win a Rivals Arena match, you will receive one Win Token. Once you accumulate a certain number of Win Tokens, you will be admitted to the next higher Division. Truly skilled players in Divisions 20-6 who win several matches in a row will be awarded a bonus Win Token, allowing them to climb the ranks faster.

The following chart breaks down the number of Win Tokens required to move up to the next Division:

 Divisions  Win Tokens Required
19-16 3
15-11 5
10-1 5

The ultimate goal, of course, is to reach Division 1 during a Season.

  • Players who reach Division 15 or above at the end of a Season will receive a special Player Card.
  • Players who reach Division 10 or above will receive a special Note Highway.
  • Players who reach Division 1 will receive a legendary Player Card!
