Pre-Download the August Update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone

PlayStation 4 players can pre-download the August title update and hit the ground running upon release

Beginning Monday, August 3rd, PlayStation 4 players can pre-download the August update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, allowing players to avoid updating on the day of release and begin playing immediately after the update goes live on Wednesday, August 5th.

How does it work?

All PlayStation 4 players will be randomly separated into two groups to pre-download.

The first group will be able to begin pre-downloading on Monday, August 3rd, 48 hours before the update goes live.

The second group will be able to begin pre-downloading on Tuesday, August 4th, 24 hours before the update goes live.

If you have Automatic Downloads enabled on your PlayStation 4, your pre-download will begin automatically as long as your PlayStation 4 is turned on or in Rest Mode. Please note: Automatic Downloads is only available with PlayStation Plus.

If you have Automatic Downloads disabled, or your PlayStation 4 was turned off, follow these steps to manually initiate the pre-download:

  1. Highlight the Modern Warfare or Warzone tile on the PlayStation 4 homescreen.
  2. Press the Options button.
  3. Select Check for Updates.

1. Why is the pre-download only available on PlayStation 4?

Xbox does not support the ability to pre-download. Similarly, Battle.net does not currently support pre-downloads for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Warzone.

2. How much hard drive space will I need to pre-download the update?

To pre-download the update, your PlayStation 4 will need to store the previous update from June and have space for the August update. Approximately 165 GB of free space will be required for the pre-download.

3. What will happen if I don’t have enough space to pre-download the update?

If your hard drive does not have enough space to pre-download the update, you will need clear space on your hard drive to make room for the update. Once enough space is available, you can manually restart the pre-download by through one of the following methods:

Check for Updates

  1. Highlight the Modern Warfare or Warzone tile on the PlayStation 4 homescreen.
  2. Press the Options button.
  3. Select Check for Updates.

4. What are the benefits of pre-downloading?

With the pre-download, you’ll be able to access the update and new game features faster without having to wait for the update to download and install on the day of release.

5. What happens if the pre-download is cancelled or stops before it’s complete?

You can manually restart the pre-download by following these steps:

  1. Highlight the Modern Warfare or Warzone tile on the PlayStation 4 homescreen.
