We couldn't be more excited to get this early version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War into your hands for testing and feedback. As we're giving you a sneak peek at the game before it's finished, it's essential to establish what the Beta is, what it isn't, and what your participation means to us.

Black Ops Cold War is still very much a work in progress. "Beta" means that we have several weeks to go before the game is ready to launch, and we're going to be doing a ton of fine-tuning, balancing, polishing, and even adding a few final features. Your input is super important throughout this process.

Beta also means that you may find some game or platform features not working properly, and game crashes may occur. Please reach out to us for help with general technical issues. If you run into any bugs during the Beta, let us know by going to our Black Ops Cold War Beta bug form.

We can't wait to bring the rest of the game to you on November 13th.

The Open Beta will give you a hands-on advanced preview of 8 new Multiplayer maps and 9 game modes, including the all-new, 12v12 Combined Arms – Assault mode and 40-player Fireteam matches.

Modes and Maps

Core MP game modes include 6v6 Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint.

VIP Escort (Single Life, Last Stand, and Revive) - Two teams alternate attacking and defending. One player on the attacking team is selected as VIP. The VIP must reach an exfil site and fast rope up to the chopper to win the round. The defenders must eliminate the VIP or all attackers to win.

Control (Respawn, Limited Lives) - Two teams alternate in attacking and defending. Attackers must capture two objectives while Defenders must prevent the objectives from being captured. Each team has a limited number of lives each round.

Combined Arms:  Assault - 12v12 (Respawn) - Two teams fight over a single objective. Once captured, the objective will move to a new location further into enemy territory. Push to and capture the enemy’s final objective to win.

Combined Arms: Domination - 12v12 (Respawn) Capture and defend several objectives. Earn score for each objective owned.

Fireteam: Dirty Bomb - (Respawn, Fireteam Spawn, Last Stand, and Revive) Ten teams of four players each are fighting to collect Uranium and deposit that Uranium into Dirty Bombs. Once a Dirty Bomb has been filled with Uranium, it can be detonated. Earn score for killing enemies, depositing Uranium, and detonating Dirty Bombs.

Miami (Core MP, VIP Escort, and Control) – Set in a neon-soaked South Beach neighborhood, players will engage in a nighttime battle in the streets, nearby buildings, and beachfront. Expect long-ranged engagements outdoors, and watch out for snipers in the windows.

Satellite (Core MP) – Expect heated action in the arid Angolan desert, littered with dune trenches and cavernous rock formations surrounding a fallen American KH-9 satellite. This map's open spaces and close quarters cater to all playstyles.

Crossroads (VIP Escort and Combined Arms) - Forces clash on the snowy Soviet hinterlands surrounding a Communications Station in a frozen lake. This largely-open map features long sightlines with nearby trees providing ample cover. Players can also take control of snowmobiles and tanks to get a leg up on the enemy.

Ruka (Fireteam) – The essence of Ruka is all about the feeling of running through a dense forest, darting between trees, and using the natural elements as cover and engagement opportunities. On top of that, we wanted to make sure there were good destinations mixed in, so you will find that the Spetsnaz GRU training grounds offer that up, in the form of the obstacle course, cabins, hidden bunkers, etc – it was all about balancing the natural with the man-made elements across the very expansive playspace. Make no mistake, Ruka is very large and packed with dangers and opportunities, but we built it to be a sandbox of fun and discovery.

Moscow (Core MP, VIP Escort, and Control) – Fighting takes place in and around an impressive, marble-adorned metro station. Stationary cars will provide cover on the streets while nearby apartment buildings and hotels set the stage for both short- and long-range encounters.

Armada (Combined Arms) - The combat is taken to the open seas, as special forces fight to seize a downed nuclear submarine in the North Atlantic Ocean. Players will engage in skirmishes on the decks of the surrounding ships and aboard an assortment of player-controlled watercraft.

Cartel (Core MP, VIP Escort, Combined Arms, and Control) - We built Cartel around the idea of an “open” middle, one that provides a very high risk verses reward incentive. We went all in on it, as the only main cover in the middle are coca plants. We wanted players to have the feeling that they could “own” this part of the map by utilizing the plants, weaving between them, and really become a hunter. For players that find that too dangerous, it’s all good, we also provided many ways to engage in the map, it's not that we threw the kitchen sink in terms of engagements, as we do want this map to feel unique when you play it, but we definitely built in enough room for variety and different player styles to flourish.

Alpine (Fireteam) – Alpine is the culmination of a few ideas – it be awesome to build a map on the side of a mountain, and it would be pretty awesome to fight in and around ski slopes, both things we had never explored together. The end result after combining these and lots and lots of playtesting, is a very fun, very unique large map that offers players the opportunities for them to pick their own adventure when they hit the ground. Want high risk verse reward? Check – try crossing, or running up the ski slopes/lanes, you might get sniped. Want to be a CQB master? Check – own the forested sections using the natural elements. Or do you want to roam between medium and long range? We got you, just rotate and roam the man-made structures spread out across the mountain side. Bottom line is that Alpine offers players a lot of ways to play and approach the map – they are in command, and to us, that is the magic sauce.

Loadouts, Scorestreaks, and Field Upgrades

Choose from an assortment of pre-set Loadouts, or create your own loadout with a variety of weapons, attachments, perks, equipment, and Wild Cards.

The collection of Scorestreaks includes some of your favorites from the Black Ops franchise, along with a few new lethal options. Earn Scorestreaks by racking up kills and earning points in objective-based modes. Scorestreak points carry over to your next life if you die, but staying alive and tallying more kills and points will yield more potent Scorestreaks.

Making their Black Ops debut, Field Upgrades are rare pieces of equipment earned over a set amount of time each match. Each Field Upgrade offers a distinct, short-term advantage that can turn the tide of a battle when deployed.
