In Call of Duty games that require an Activision account, your Activision ID also serves as your display name in games. You can change your display name in game through the Settings menu or on the web through your account profile.

Follow the steps below if you wish to change your Activision ID/display name.

Please note: Display name changes require rename tokens. You'll receive one new rename token every six months, and you may carry up to two tokens at any given time.

Display name changes in game

1. Open Settings and select Account & Network.
2. Select Activision Account.
3. Select Change Display Name.
4. Enter your new display name.
5. Select Confirm and Restart.

Display name changes through your account profile

1. Log in to your Activision account.
2. Go to the Basic Info tab and select Edit next to your Activision ID.
3. Select Send Code in the Account Verification Required pop-up.
4. Go to your email account to retrieve the one-time verification code.
5. Return to the Account Verification Required pop-up and enter the code.
6. Return to the Basic Info tab and select Edit next to your Activision ID.
7. Enter your new display name and select Save.
8. Enter your Activision account password, then select Submit.

Why was my display name changed in game?

Call of Duty games use display name filters that are periodically updated to address invalid characters or language that violates the Call of Duty Code of Conduct. If a display name is no longer acceptable after a filter update, it will be changed to “anon” followed by a series of numbers (example: anon123456789012).

If your display name is changed due to invalid characters, you will also be granted a rename token if you have fewer than two.

If your display name is changed due to a violation of the Call of Duty Code of Conduct, a rename token will not be granted, and your account may be subject to further penalties. Please review the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy for more information.
