Call of Duty®: Black Ops 6 offers a range of communication settings, allowing players to customize how and where they can interact with other players in the game. Use this guide to help make decisions about your interactions with other players in Black Ops 6. Please note, however, that some of these options may also be managed within your platform account’s settings, which may override your in-game settings.
Communication Features in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
How to customize your communication settings and other player interactions in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Voice Chat allows you to hear and speak to other players. In the pre-game Lobby, all players with Voice Chat enabled can communicate with each other. However, you can typically only hear or speak to other players on your team in team-based matches, though some exceptions apply. See more about these exceptions below.
Voice Chat Settings
You can access a variety of Voice Chat options within the Settings menu.
- Open the main menu and navigate to Settings.
- Select Audio.
- Select the Voice Chat tab.
Here, you can adjust several Voice Chat features:
- Voice Chat Volume: Set the volume of your voice chat output.
- Voice Chat: When enabled, allows you to hear and speak to other players.
- Proximity Chat*: When enabled, allows you to hear and speak to nearby opponents during a match.
- Body Shield Chat*: When enabled, allows you to hear and speak to opponents when Body Shield is applied.
- Last Words Voice Chat*: When enabled, your opponent hears your last words via voice chat after an elimination.
- Game Chat Voice: Allows you to choose who you communicate with via Voice Chat. (Note that these options, as well as Proximity Chat, can also be accessed by selecting Voice at the bottom of the screen in the pre-game Lobby.)
- All Lobby: Communicate with all players in the Game Chat Channel.
- Party Only: Only communicate with players in your current Party.
- Friends Only: Only communicate with players on your Friends List.
- Friends & Chat Channels: Only communicate with players on your Friends List and players from all your Chat Channels.
* Your Game Voice Chat setting must be set to All Lobby for these options to work.
If you wish to mute a player’s Voice Chat, you can do so in the pre-game Lobby or during a match.
These muting options are temporary and will apply to your current play session. Beginning a new play session will reset your muting choices.
Please note: Muting a player will also prevent them from hearing you.
Muting in the pre-game Lobby
- Highlight the player in the Player List.
- Press Select.
- Select Mute.
When more than one player is in the pre-game Lobby, you can also choose to mute the entire Lobby. This menu also allows you to turn Proximity Chat on or off, as well as select specific groups you can interact with via Voice Chat.

- Highlight the player.
- Select Toggle Mute to mute or unmute the player.
Press and hold the button in Step 1 above to open a different menu, where Voice Chat for the entire Lobby can be turned on or off. You can further manage your options through the Voice Chat tab within the Audio section of the game’s Settings.
Text Chat allows you to send text-based messages to other players. You can access the following Text Chat options in the Account & Network section of the Settings menu.
- Enabled (On): Allows Text Chat within the Game Chat and your Chat Channels.
- My Chat Channels Only: Allows Text Chat within your Chat Channels only.
- Disabled (Off): Prevents Text Chat within the Game Chat and your Chat Channels.

You can choose to block players from communicating and interacting with you in the game. Players will remain blocked unless you choose to unblock them.
When a player is blocked, it will restrict all communication options and invites between you and the player, and will remove the player from your Activision Friends List, if applicable. Blocking a player will not remove them from your platform account’s Friends lists.
