Call of Duty Operation Nightmare

Slay monsters to earn rewards in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone, plus an additional reward to use in Diablo IV

The Butcher’s Meat Hook can take up to four days to appear in your Wardrobe in Diablo IV. If you haven’t received The Butcher’s Meat Hook after four days, please reach out to Blizzard Support for assistance.

Operation Nightmare – playable as part of Season 06’s The Haunting Event in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ – offers players a chance to earn exclusive monster-themed digital content for use in Modern Warfare® II and Warzone™. In addition, killing the classic Diablo® foe The Butcher will reward you with The Butcher’s Meat Hook, which can then be used in Diablo® IV*.

General Questions

1. How long is Operation Nightmare?

Operation Nightmare is available within The Haunting Event, which begins with the Season 06 Reloaded update on 10/17 at 9 AM PT and lasts until 11/6 at 9 AM PT.

2. How do I earn rewards in Operation Nightmare?

Check out the Operation Nightmare tab in Modern Warfare II and Warzone and check your Tac-Map for locations to investigate. Look for a unique entity somewhere in each location within night versions of Warzone. Take down each monster to earn a unique reward. All monsters can be hunted in Al Mazrah, while The Butcher can be found in both Al Mazrah and Vondel. 

Please note: In order to earn The Butcher’s Meat Hook, players must have their Battle.net account used to play Diablo IV* linked to their Activision account used to play Modern Warfare II or Warzone. Learn more about linking platform accounts to an Activision account.

3. What kind of rewards can I earn in the Operation Nightmare?

Each monster you slay unlocks a unique Calling Card for use in Modern Warfare II and Warzone.

In addition to the Calling Card, defeating The Butcher grants The Butcher’s Meat Hook, a one-handed scythe cosmetic usable in Diablo IV*.

Killing at least five out of the six monsters in the Operation Nightmare unlocks the Bloody Mess Mastery Weapon Blueprint.

4. I killed a monster in the Operation Nightmare challenge but didn’t receive my reward. What should I do?

The Butcher’s Meat Hook

Once you kill The Butcher in Call of Duty, the Meat Hook cosmetic will arrive in your Wardrobe in Diablo IV* after up to four days.

Please note: You must link your Activision and Battle.net accounts, and you must have a scythe equipped in order to view the transmog in Diablo IV*.

If you have not received The Butcher’s Meat Hook in Diablo IV* after four days, please reach out to Blizzard Support for assistance.

The Butcher

1. What are the requirements for earning The Butcher’s Meat Hook?

  1. You must kill The Butcher in Call of Duty.
  2. You must have your Battle.net account used to play Diablo IV* linked to your Activision account used to play Modern Warfare II or Warzone.

Accounts can be linked before or after killing The Butcher, and The Butcher's Meat Hook will be granted in Diablo IV* after both requirements are met. Once you have met the eligibility requirements, delivery of The Butcher’s Meat Hook can take up to four days.

Please note that both requirements must be met before Operation Nightmare ends on 11/6 at 9 AM PT.

2. How do I earn The Butcher’s Meat Hook?

To earn The Butcher’s Meat Hook for use in Diablo IV*, players must defeat The Butcher within the Operation Nightmare challenge during The Haunting Event in Season 06 Reloaded in Modern Warfare II and Warzone.

Check your Tac-Map for The Butcher’s location in both Al Mazrah and Vondel within night versions of Warzone.

3. How do I know if I successfully killed The Butcher and earned the Meat Hook?

When you defeat The Butcher, an in-game notification will appear on screen. You will also see The Butcher marked as “Killed” on the Operation Nightmare challenge screen in game.

4. I killed The Butcher but didn’t get the Meat Hook in Diablo IV. What should I do?

Delivery of The Butcher’s Meat Hook in Diablo IV* can take up to four days. Please make sure your Battle.net account used to play Diablo IV* is linked to your Activision account used to play Modern Warfare II or Warzone.

If you have killed The Butcher and linked your accounts and have not received The Butcher’s Meat Hook in Diablo IV* after four days, please reach out to Blizzard Support for assistance.

5. Can I defeat The Butcher more than once to earn more rewards?

No, The Butcher’s Meat Hook can only be earned one time per each linked Activision and Battle.net account.
