Crash Team Rumble Gameplay

An overview of gameplay mechanics in Crash Team Rumble

Get ready for an all-new way to Crash. Crash Team Rumble™, available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One consoles, is a fast-paced 4v4, platforming battle game set in the Crash Bandicoot® universe.

Teams of four players are matched online in this cross-platform game and can run, jump, slide, and smash their way to victory across a variety of action-packed arenas. Collect and bank more Wumpa Fruit than your opponents to seal the victory.

1. How do you play Crash Team Rumble?

The object of Crash Team Rumble is simple: the first team to bank enough Wumpa wins the match. Players play as heroes or villains with unique roles, and each role has a different task to help the team.

At the beginning of a match, players will choose a character and a Power. Each character has an individual move set and other abilities that support their role. Abilities include enhanced jumping, dodging, slowing down your opponents, and more.

2. What are the different roles?

Each character has a role, and their abilities are designed to help in their role.

The roles are:

  • Scorers: Collect Wumpa found all over the arena and bring it back to your team’s Wumpa Bank to score points.
  • Blockers: Play defense to stop your opponents from scoring Wumpa.
  • Boosters: Activate Gem Pads across the map to boost their team’s Wumpa score. Boosters also collect Relics to activate Relic Stations and trigger game-changing events.

While each character can participate in these activities, each character's abilities are designed to make the most of their role.

3. What are Relic Stations?

Relic Stations are locations on the map that activate game-changing events and abilities. Find Relics on the map and bring them back to a Relic Station to activate it. Each map has different Relic Stations with unique power ups, such as environmental hazards dropping hot lava on your opponents, constructing catapults to blast you across the map more quickly, or summoning the alien Nitrous Oxide to chase down the other team in his UFO.

Be on the lookout for Epic Relic Stations, which cost more Relics to activate but offer even bigger boosts.

4. What are character Powers?

Powers are “ultimate abilities” that players can use to help their team win.

Each Power has a unique behavior that can affect the match for a short period of time. Powers affect a range of actions, such as healing your team, slowing down the other team, or carrying more Wumpa.

Select your Power along with your character before the match begins. Powers are not tied to your hero’s role, allowing players to mix and match abilities to find a playstyle that suits them best.

Powers recharge over time but charge faster as you fulfill your hero’s role. For example, a Scorer will recharge their Power faster if they bank Wumpa fruit, while a Blocker will recharge faster by landing Knockouts on the enemy team.

5. What are Gem Pads?

Gem Pads offer another way to help your team. Capture a set of Gem Pads to trigger a time-limited multiplier to the Wumpa your team brings to the bank and boost your team’s scoring.

6. What characters can I play?

Crash Team Rumble features eight heroes and villains from the Crash Bandicoot universe at launch.

  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Coco
  • Tawna
  • Dr. Neo Cortex
  • Dingodile
  • N. Tropy
  • N. Brio
  • Catbat

7. How many maps are available?

Crash Team Rumble launches with nine playable maps, each with unique environments, platforming challenges, and ways to engage with your opponents. Each map also has different Relic Stations that trigger events or abilities only available on that map.

8. What are the different ways to play matches?

You can choose to play Crash Team Rumble in Public or Private matches.

In Public matches, you will be placed on a team with other players and play against another team.

In Private matches, you can create matches to play with your friends. Private matches have the option to use bots to help fill out teams.

Crash Team Rumble supports crossplay, allowing you to play with friends on all supported platforms.
