Guitar Hero Live Gameplay Issues FAQ

This article will help you with common gameplay issues in Guitar Hero Live

As of December 1, 2018, the GHTV mode within Guitar Hero Live will no longer be available to play. On that date, we will terminate the service for GHTV and servers will be shut down. Console versions of the GH Live mode will continue to operate as usual.

As of June 1, 2018, iOS versions of the Guitar Hero Live game for mobile will no longer be available for download via the app store. However, if you currently own the app and have it installed on your device, you can continue to play the GH Live mode on your installed device. Note, if you update your iOS software, the app may no longer be supported.

Additionally, on June 1, 2018, all GHTV in-game purchases will be turned off. Players can continue to use their Hero Cash and items on hand until the GHTV sunset date of December 1, 2018.

1. My Hero Power keeps triggering when I don’t want it to. Is there any way to disable to the guitar controller’s tilt function?

No, there’s no way to disable the guitar’s tilt function. It’s recommended that you play Guitar Hero Live while standing up, using the guitar strap, and playing with the controller at a 90-degree angle to your body.

2. My Note Highway keeps stuttering in GH Live. What’s causing this?

This happens when a television’s high-end settings are set in ways that are incompatible with the game. Check to make sure that your TV is set to Game Mode and that any picture smoothing settings are turned off.

3. I’m playing on an Xbox 360 or a Wii U and I’m finding that my Note Highway will sometimes freeze for half a second, breaking my note streak. This always happens at the same time on the same songs. What can I do about it?

This is a rare issue that can happen when the GHTV cache overflows. Clearing the GHTV cache should fix this issue.

To clear your GHTV cache, follow these steps:

Go to the Guitar Hero Live Main Menu.
Press the first fret button to open the Options menu.
Highlight Clear GHTV Cache.
Press the first fret button to select Clear GHTV Cache and select OK.
Wait for the Clearing Cache, Please Wait message to disappear, and then return to the game.

4. The game froze up or got stuck in a black screen while playing in GHTV.

This can happen due to a number of rare issues, but these are the most common causes of a crash or getting stuck in a black screen:

Disconnecting a LAN cable during a screen transition
Unplugging a WAN Ethernet cable
Playing GHTV on an Internet connection below the minimum requirement of 2.3 Mbps transfer speed.

5. I’m getting an error message that includes the name of a stone such as “Flint” or “Quartz.” What does that mean?

In-game error messages help to identify the specific error that’s occurred. For more details on a particular error message, check out Guitar Hero Live Error Messages.

6. I’ve played with eight different bands in GH Live Quickplay to unlock the Session Musician achievement/trophy but it won’t unlock.

This achievement/trophy can only unlocked from within the Career Mode.

7. I’ve fully leveled up my Hero Power section on my guitar in order to earn the Power Crazy achievement/trophy. The thing is, the achievement/trophy requires me to use five Hero Powers in a single song and I can’t find a song that allows me to use five Hero Powers.

Merely having the Hero Power section upgraded doesn’t guarantee the availability of five Hero Powers in a single song. However, since Hero Power sections appear every 30 to 40 seconds, your best chance of completing this achievement/trophy is to pick the longest song you can find, at least longer than 3:30.

8. I bought a lot of DLC songs on the older Guitar Hero games. Can I use those songs in Guitar Hero Live?

No. While you can still download and play any songs you purchased on any of the classic Guitar Hero titles, none of that DLC will work with Guitar Hero Live due to the completely new gameplay experience.

9. How do I use Shareplay with Guitar Hero Live?

You cannot. Shareplay is not supported in Guitar Hero Live.

10. I’ve gained access to a Premium Show either by completing the song requirements or by purchasing access through Hero Cash. When I try to access the Premium Show, the game won’t let me in.

This is a very rare issue in which the game fails to recognize legitimate access to a Premium Show. If this happens, simply return to the Main Menu, then return to the Premium Show.

11. I was attempting to create a Playlist, but the game only allows me to add the same song over and over

This is a visual bug with the game’s playlists. Despite appearances, the playlist is functioning properly and will add the selected song.

12. My opponent’s Note Highway disappeared during a Rivals Arena Challenge match and “Matchmaking in progress” displayed until the end of the song. Then a regular result screen displayed rather than the Rivals Arena Challenge results.

This is caused by network issues. When there are network problems that cause you to lose connection with your opponent, the Rivals Arena Challenge match will be canceled. Neither a Win Token nor loss will be awarded to either player when this happens.

13. I completed a song, but I didn’t receive any Coins, Status, or Song Goals. The song was also a Requirement Song for a Premium Show and it didn’t count as completed even though I achieved the requirement’s goal.

This is very rare issue and should not affect other songs played afterward.

14. I was in the Song Catalog and it was taking a very long time for the Song Goals tab to be populated.

This is a very rare issue that can be influenced by the quality of your network connection, however the Song Goals will eventually load properly if given enough time.

15. I was playing in the regular channels on the Xbox 360 and I suddenly stopped seeing live players. I was only getting matched with bots.

This is a very rare issue that can be fixed by restarting the game.

16. I won a Rival Arena Match but I didn’t receive a Token. What happened?

This is a very rare issue that can happen during a network disconnect. Make sure your console is connected to the Internet, then restart the system and check for your Win Token. If your Token still hasn't arrived, contact Customer Support.
