Updating Apps and Firmware on Mobile Devices
A guide to updating apps and firmware on mobile devices.
Applications running on your mobile device require updates in order to fix errors and improve your gameplay experience. Not only is it necessary to keep your apps updated, you should also make sure the operating system of your mobile device is the latest version available. The following is a guide to help update both your operating system and applications as well as troubleshoot common issues.
iOS Devices
To check for available updates on your mobile device:
- Tap Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Software Update.
- Tap Download and Install.
To check available updates for apps:
- Tap the App Store icon.
- Available updates will be listed under the Available Updates section.
- Select Update on any app that is located in the Available Updates section.
To enable automatic updates for apps:
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Tap iTunes & App Store.
- Swipe right on the Apps switch.
To force an app to end:
- Quickly press the Home button twice. This will preview all open apps on your device.
- Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
- Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
To install an app on your mobile device:
- Tap the App Store icon.
- Tap Get or the Cloud icon if you have previously downloaded the app.
- The app will appear on your device once the downloading process is complete.
To delete an app on your mobile device:
- Press and hold the app icon that you wish to delete. A small X will appear next to the app.
- Tap X on the app.
- Select Delete.
Android Devices
To install an app on your mobile device:
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Tap About Phone.
- Tap System/Software Update.
- Tap Check Now.
- Tap Restart & install if an update is avaialble.
To update an app on your mobile device:
- Open the Google Play Store or Amazon AppStore app.
- Tap the My Apps icon.
- Available updates will be listed under the Updates section.
- Select Update on any app that is located in the Updates section.
To force an app to end:
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Select Apps.
- Select the Running tab and choose the app you wish to close.
- Tap the Stop/Force Stop button.
To install an app on your mobile device:
- Tap the Apps icon.
- Select the Google Play Store or Amazon AppStore icon.
- Tap the magnifying glass and type in the name of the app.
- Tap the Install button.
- Once the download is complete, you can start the app by tapping the Open button.
To delete an app on your mobile device:
- Open the Google Play Store or Amazon AppStore app.
- Select My apps.
- Select the app you wish to delete and tap Uninstall.
