The following is a guide to help you install Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. If you run into any issues during installation, refer to the troubleshooting tips below.

First things first

Before beginning any game installation, we recommend that you check for and install any available console updates. Follow the steps below to check for updates manually. Be sure to allow any updates to install completely before beginning your game installation.

Checking for updates on PlayStation 4

1. Select the Settings menu from the PlayStation 4 home screen.
2. Select System Software Update.
3. Install any available updates.
4. Follow the onscreen steps to complete the update.

Checking for updates on Xbox One

1. Press the Home button to open the dashboard menu.
2. Select Settings from the bottom of the menu, then select All Settings.
3. Select System, then select Updates.
4. Select Update Console if the option becomes available.
5. Follow the onscreen steps to complete the update.

Installation on all platforms

You should have about 108 GB of free hard drive space to download and/or install the game and download the day one update. This update must be installed completely in order to access the full game. Download speeds may vary based on region, connection type, and the speed of your internet connection.

Installing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from a disc on PlayStation 4

The day one update package for PlayStation 4 is roughly 47 GB.

Please note: You will be able to launch the game before the disc has finished installing, at roughly 80%. Launching the game at this time will result in a loading screen that can last up to nine minutes. While this is expected functionality, it is recommended that you allow the disc to install completely before launching the game.

After the disc has completely installed, you'll be able to launch the game and play the Boot Camp tutorials while the day one update is still downloading.

Once everything is downloaded and installed, you can prompt the download and installation of Co-op Mode and Survival Mode in game by entering them from the main menu.

Please note: If you receive a message that says you don’t own or are missing content, head to the PlayStation Store to download any missing Add-Ons. You may also need to restart your console.

Installing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from a disc on Xbox One

The day one update package for Xbox One is roughly 74 GB.

After the disc installation has reached 20%, you'll be able to launch the game and play the Boot Camp tutorials while the day one update is still downloading.

Once everything is downloaded and installed, you can prompt the download and installation of Co-op Mode in game by entering the Co-op menu from the main menu.

Downloading and installing digital copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

If you pre-ordered a digital edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, visit your platform's store on launch day to begin downloading and installing the game. Note that the download includes both the base game and the day one update.

PlayStation 4

If you didn't preload Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game content on PlayStation 4 prior to launch, the preload content will download in conjunction with the base game download.

When the download reaches 15 GB, you'll be able to launch the game and play the Boot Camp tutorials while the rest of the base game and the day one update are still downloading.

Xbox One

If your Xbox One has automatic downloads enabled, some of the game content has already been downloaded to your console. Otherwise, the preload content will download in conjunction with the base game download.

When the download reaches 17 GB, you'll be able to launch the game and play the Boot Camp tutorials while the rest of the base game and the day one update are still downloading.

Battle.net

1. Launch the Battle.net app and log in to your account.
   
2. Select All Games.
3. Find and select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
4. Select the Install button to download and install the game.

Steam

1. Launch the Steam app and log in to your account.
   
2. Select Library.
3. Find and select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
4. Select the Install button to download and install the game.
