The following guide provides you with the best information when it comes to keeping your Activision account secure and safeguarded from potential threats to your account and exposure of your personal information.

Use a strong password

A password is the key that unlocks your account, and using a strong password is key to keeping your account secure. While humans and computers can still crack passwords, you should follow these guidelines to maximize your account’s security.

• Use all the characters you can: Activision account passwords may contain between 8 to 20 characters, and we recommend using all 20.
• Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers: Along with numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters add even more variables to your password.
• Avoid passwords that may be easy to guess: Names and birthdates are the obvious examples of what to avoid, but you should also steer clear of using passwords that may relate to your gamer ID or the games you typically play.
• Avoid using common passwords: You’ve probably heard that “password” is one of the most commonly used passwords. The most frequently used passwords are also the most vulnerable.

Link your platform accounts

We offer the option to link a PlayStation, Xbox Live, Steam, and Battle.net account to your Activision account. One of the benefits of linked accounts is the ability to log in to an Activision account with one of your linked first-party platform accounts. For example, suppose you forgot the password to your Activision account or no longer have access to the email address associated with your Activision account. In that case, you can log in to your Activision account using the credentials for a linked PlayStation, Xbox Live, Steam, or Battle.net account to update your password or change your email address. This service is especially useful if your Activision account password gets changed without your knowledge.

Please note: You may also link Nintendo and social media accounts to an Activision account. However, logging in with these accounts is currently not supported.

Enable two-factor authentication

Make your account more secure by enabling two-factor authentication. With two-factor authentication enabled, a third-party authentication application (Google Authenticator) will be required to log in to your account.

To access your account with two-factor authentication enabled, you will be prompted to enter an authentication code generated from an authentication app after entering your email and password.

Do not use passwords you’ve used for other accounts

It might seem easy to re-use passwords you’ve used for a long time and will always remember. However, the more often you re-use a password, the more vulnerable you are to having an account breached. As a best practice, we recommend using a unique password for every account.

Do not buy, sell, or share accounts

Transferring or selling accounts violates our Terms of Use. We strongly discourage sharing accounts as they may leave you inadvertently exposed to unintentional actions. Any actions—whether intentional or unintentional—committed on an account, or enforcements applied to a shared account, are the sole responsibility of the account owner and may not be reviewed, reversed, or restored.

Do not share account details or credentials

Much like shared accounts, sharing account credentials—even with people you know and trust—can lead to unwanted and unintended consequences and expose your account to greater risk.

Be sure to log out of your account and avoid saving login credentials within your browser.

Do not sign in on shared devices

We understand shared devices may be the only option for some players to connect and play online. If you access your account on a shared device, always make sure you log out of your account and ensure the browser and device did not store or save your login credentials.

Avoid scam websites and suspicious offers

Do not trust any suspicious websites or offers for in-game items such as COD Points, cosmetic items, add-ons, or other digital content. Also, avoid services that offer leveling up or other artificial game progression services. Not only are these services in violation of our Terms of Use, they can also lead to a compromised account and expose your personal information.

What to do if someone accessed your account

If your Activision account ever gets accessed by someone you don’t know or you suspect your account credentials might have been exposed, you should:

1. Change your Activision account password immediately following the strong password guidelines above.
2. Unlink the accounts you have linked to your Activision account.
3. Change the passwords for the accounts you’ve unlinked.
4. Relink your accounts to your Activision account.
