Guitar Hero Live FAQ

All about the brand new Guitar Hero Live

Become a Rock Star!

Who hasn't dreamed of being a rock star? Well your dreams can come true in the all-new Guitar Hero Live! Reinvented from the ground up, Guitar Hero Live puts you on stage in the club, in the arena, or at the festival where your skill creates the crowd's reaction.

1. I remember Guitar Hero! Is this the same game?

Not exactly. We’ve reinvented Guitar Hero from the ground up for Guitar Hero Live. The guitar-shaped controller is new, and the perspective of the game is new. If you’ve never played a Guitar Hero game before you’ll find this new game easier to get into as a beginner. If you’re a Guitar Hero veteran you’ll discover all new ways to play.

2. OK. Let’s start with the guitar controller. How is that new?

The new Guitar Hero Live controller's been completely reworked from top to bottom. We've altered the number of buttons and changed quite a few other things as well. Check out The New Guitar Hero Live Controller to get the whole scoop.

3. You said the perspective is new? What does that mean?

Gone are the cartoon-like avatars of you and your bandmates. You’ll now play the game in a first-person perspective where you get to rock out on stage with your bandmates in front of live crowds. Depending on how well you do, both your band and the crowd will react to you in real time, showing their appreciation or tossing cups and bottles your way. Your bandmates, on the other hand, will let you know in no uncertain terms whether you’re a good addition to the group or whether you might need to have a “conversation” after the show.

4. Where is that huge crowd located? Is that where I'm going to be playing Guitar Hero Live?

Yes! All of the action takes place inside two huge music festivals, one in the UK and one in the United States.

5. Do I need an Internet connection to play Guitar Hero Live?

No. Guitar Hero Live does not need an Internet connection.

6. Can I sing along with my friends while they play Guitar Hero Live?

Yes! Guitar Hero Live supports vocal play. All you have to do is plug a USB microphone into your console or use the free downloadable mobile app (for use with console systems) and you'll get a separate note highway with lyrics and a tone track and a separate score that allows you to sing along at home!

7. I noticed a large "Hero Power" button on the new Guitar Hero controller. Is this like the old "Star Power" in the original Guitar Hero games?

Yes. Like the original "Star Power" abilities, Hero Powers allow a player to temporarily add a modifier to their playing that'll give them an edge. As in previous games, the player can activate a Hero Power by tilting the guitar neck or just hitting the Hero Power button at the guitar's bridge. The difference now is that there are a number of unique powers available to employ.

Here are some of the Hero Powers that will be available in Guitar Hero Live:

  • Double Multiplier: This will give you double the score multiplier for every note you hit.
  • Dial Down: If you're having trouble with a particular section of a song, the Dial Down power will reduce the number of notes coming down the highway for the duration of the power.
  • Dial Up: This is the opposite of Dial Down. If you particular section of a song mastered, you can send more notes down the highway and really jack up your score.
  • Clear Highway: This power will automatically turn every note currently on the highway into a played note.
  • Score Chaser: Score Chaser will double the maximum multiplier cap.
  • Safety Net Use this to get a little note security. The power will keep your score streak and score multiplier at their current value even if you miss a note.
  • Invincibility: All notes are automatically played for the duration of the power and missing a note doesn't impact your score.
