Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Editions FAQ

A breakdown of the different editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, including pre-order incentives and cross-gen options for consoles

Players looking for the BlackCell (Battle Pass, COD Points, and Tier Skips) included in the Vault Edition can access this content in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III when Season 01 begins in early December.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III continues the story of Task Force 141 following the events of 2022’s Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II, introducing an epic new global storyline as well as the return of the ultranationalist war criminal Makarov.

Co-developed by the three main Call of Duty® studios – Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games – for the first time in franchise history, Modern Warfare® III includes a heart-pounding Campaign, adrenaline-filled, world-class Multiplayer, and a brand-new open world Zombies experience.

Captain Price “Skirmisher” Skin #

Players who pre-order any digital edition of Modern Warfare III will receive the Captain Price Skirmisher Skin for use in Call of Duty®: Mobile.

Once Modern Warfare III launches, players will need to play one match in Modern Warfare III by November 15 to be eligible to receive the Price Skirmisher Skin.

The Price Skirmisher Skin will then begin rolling out to in-game mailboxes for eligible players starting November 30. Please wait until December 7 before reaching out to Activision Support.

Please note: a digital edition of Modern Warfare III must be pre-ordered on a platform using an Activision account that is also linked to Call of Duty: Mobile.

Vault Edition

Vault Edition

Available on all platforms, the digital-only Vault Edition offers the most content of any version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

In addition to the base game – Digital Cross-Gen version on consoles and Standard Edition on PC – Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta*, and up to one week† of Early Access to the entire Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Campaign, the Vault Edition includes the following bonus content.


Nemesis Operator Pack

Nemesis Operator Pack

Includes four playable Multiplayer Operators: Price, Ghost, Makarov, and Warden. The Nemesis Operator pack will be available for use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone.

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will be able to use the Nemesis Operators during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta*.

FATE Weapons Vaults §

Fate Weapons Vault

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will be able to use the two new FATE Weapon Vaults during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta*.

BlackCell Battle Pass Bundle (one Season)

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition receive the Modern Warfare III Season 01 BlackCell offering, which includes the Battle Pass, BlackCell Sector that includes CP, Battle Token Tier Skips, and more. This exceptional content drop includes the following:

  • Access to a Modern Warfare III Season Battle Pass, along with 20 Tier Skips from BlackCell (25 on PlayStation®) and the unlocking of up to 1,400 COD Points.
  • An additional 30 Tier Skips for purchasing the Vault Edition. The BlackCell Sector within the Battle Pass Map with a variety of exclusive content, along with immediate unlocking of adjacent Battle Pass Sectors.
  • BlackCell-only Battle Pass content: expect BlackCell Alt Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and more.

This also includes the full Battle Pass with access to over 100 rewards across multiple Sectors, such as functional weapons, Blueprints, Operator Skins, Emblems, Skins, Stickers, and other Modern Warfare III–specific content.

 

Digital Cross-Gen Editions for Consoles

Available for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Digital Cross-Gen Editions include the base game playable on both console generations within the same console family (Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5). Digital Cross-Gen Editions give players the flexibility to play on multiple consoles or take advantage of potential upgrade options.

Please note: When installing the game on a Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5, be sure to install that console’s version of the game, as both versions may be available for download in the Cross-Gen Bundle.

PC Standard Edition

The PC Standard Edition is only available digitally and can be pre-purchased through Battle.net and Steam.

Players who pre-purchase a PC Standard Edition will get Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta* and Campaign†.

Physical Editions on Consoles

Physical Editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III can be pre-ordered for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. All Physical Editions on consoles include Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta* when pre-ordered at participating retailers.

  • Xbox Cross-Gen Edition: Includes a cross-gen version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III playable on Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
  • PlayStation 4 Cross-Gen Edition: Includes a cross-gen version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III playable on PlayStation 4 and unlocks a free digital upgrade to play on PlayStation 5.
    • Please note: The game disc will be required to play the PlayStation 5 version.
  • PlayStation 5: Includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, playable on PlayStation 5 only.

Please note: Physical editions of the game will not operate on a digital-only PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S.

Upgrade to the Vault Edition

If you've pre-ordered a digital edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and want to upgrade to the Vault Edition, follow the steps below based on your platform.

Banned Account Restrictions

Activision ID accounts permanently banned from previous titles (Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® (2019), Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty®: Vanguard, Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II, Call of Duty®: Warzone™) may not be eligible to play Modern Warfare III, per the existing Security and Enforcement Policy.

Battle.net accounts that have been permanently banned from Modern Warfare II or Warzone will not be eligible to purchase Modern Warfare III from the Blizzard Digital Store. Players may have the ability to purchase Modern Warfare III digitally on Xbox and PlayStation, as well as on Steam; however, permanently banned accounts will not be eligible to play online modes in Modern Warfare III in those versions.
