Crossplay and Cross-Progression in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

Play and earn progress across all linked accounts and alongside your friends on all platforms

Crossplay continues with the launch of Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III, allowing players on all platforms to play together.

Along with this unified playing experience, crossplay enables cross-progression, which means your progression in Modern Warfare III will carry over across all platforms linked to the same Activision account, regardless of console generation.

On top of that, gameplay in Modern Warfare III’s Multiplayer and Zombies – as well as in Call of Duty®: Warzone™ – will count toward your overall player progression and Battle Pass progression.

Essentially, whenever you play Multiplayer or Zombies in Modern Warfare III or Warzone, you'll unlock something new or at least progress toward it. And that doesn't even include the rewards available during the seasonal Battle Pass system, another way to earn content starting in Season 01.

Progression at Launch

Get a headstart before Season 01 by playing Multiplayer matches and Zombies to earn XP and unlock content in both modes as you level up through the 55 Military Ranks. As you achieve new Military Ranks, you'll permanently unlock default and customizable Loadout slots and items along the way. Your progression options at launch also include an assortment of Challenges.

Base Operator Challenges

Complete specific challenges in Multiplayer and Zombies to unlock additional Operators available at launch.

Daily and Weekly Challenges

Available in Multiplayer and Zombies, Daily Challenges give you an opportunity to earn additional XP. Each Challenge you complete awards you XP. Completing all Daily Challenges grants you additional XP. Weekly Challenges award digital content such as camos and Aftermarket Parts.

Career Challenges

Various Multiplayer and Zombies Career Challenges can be completed, earning you additional XP and cosmetic rewards. You'll earn some Career Challenges, such as winning a specific number of matches, just by playing the game. Other Career Challenges may be more specific, requiring you to reach particular milestones in a game mode or with a specific weapon class, for example.

Career Challenges may have several milestones that award XP as you complete each one, and completing all milestones will award a Calling Card.

Camo Progression

Weapon Camos, available within the Customize tab in your Loadouts, is an overall challenge system allowing you to unlock an assortment of Camos to customize your weapons. Base Camo challenges are not tied to a single weapon. Instead, Camos are unlocked for all weapons when the challenge is completed.

Camos are broken into two overall categories – Base and Completionist – which also include subcategories. Earn all Base Camos in all Base Camo subcategories to unlock the Completionist Camo subcategories.

Weapon Mastery Challenges

Unlocking Completionist Camos also unlocks Weapon Mastery Challenges, which are unique to each weapon and allow you to earn Completionist Camo-themed Emblems and Calling Cards. Earning all Weapon Mastery Challenges for a weapon grants a unique Mastery Weapon Charm.

When new weapons are added to a weapon class, new Camo challenges are also become available. This means even if you’ve unlocked Mastery Camos within the weapon class, you will need to complete new challenges before you can apply Mastery Camos to the newly added weapon.

Challenge Tracking

Newly added with Season 2 Reloaded, players can now track the progress of Challenges in game.

While Daily Challenges will continue to be tracked automatically, players can now choose up to five other Challenges to be tracked while playing. Progression for selected Challenges will appear in the in-game Pause menu and in the Lobby. You can also view your actively tracked Challenges by opening the Tracked Challenges menu from most areas where you can add Challenges.

Challenges that can be tracked include:

Weapon Prestige Camos

Show off your weapon mastery with Weapon Prestige Camos, a new camo progression system available in Modern Warfare III and Warzone.

Weapon Prestige Camos are available to unlock on any weapon once max level for the weapon has been reached. Earn the Weapon XP specified in game for the camo in order to unlock a Weapon Prestige Camo. Weapon Prestige Camos are available for every weapon in Modern Warfare III and Warzone, including weapons carried forward from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II.

Once a Weapon Prestige Camo is unlocked, it can only be applied to the weapon used to earn the camo, giving you an opportunity to show off each weapon you complete.

Navigate to a weapon’s Camo screen in the Customization, then go to the Weapon Prestige tab. There you will see a preview of the Weapon Prestige Camo applied to the weapon along with the unlock requirements and any progress made.

Season 3 Reloaded and the Weapon Prestige Camo system debuts with One Trick, an animated molten gold camo that can be unlocked by earning 150,000 Weapon XP.

Weapon Prestige Camos in future Seasons will require all previous Season camos to be unlocked. Weapon Prestige Camos will always be available to unlock, and do not need to be unlocked in the Season they were released.

Be on the lookout for three new Weapon Prestige Camos unveiled in each of the remaining Seasons for Modern Warfare III and Warzone.

Will my game progress, content, and in-game purchases carry over if I decide to play on another platform or upgrade my console?

Game progression

Game progression is stored on your Activision account. Your progression (stats, rank, weapon, and camo progression) and unlocked content (camos and other customization items) will be available on all platforms as long as you play on the same linked Activision account where you originally earned the progress and unlocked the content.

Battle Pass

Battle Pass progress and content you unlock are tied to your Activision account, excluding COD Points, which are tied to your platform. You can only spend COD Points on the platform you were playing on when they were unlocked.

COD Points and purchased content

Some content can be used across all platform accounts linked to your Activision account, and some is tied to your platform.

  • Content you purchased with COD Points can be used on any platform linked to your Activision account.
  • COD Points you earn through the Battle Pass can only be spent on the platform you are playing on when you unlock a Battle Pass Tier awarding COD Points.
  • COD Points and any content purchased with real-world money can only be used on the platform where you purchased them.
