A breakdown of the different editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, including cross-gen options for consoles and pre-order incentives


Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – the sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – kicks off a new era in the franchise with a worldwide release on October 28, 2022.

Following the harrowing and breathtaking events from Modern Warfare, Task Force 141 returns to action through a global Campaign, immersive, world-class Multiplayer, and an evolved Special Ops experience, all carefully crafted with gameplay and technical innovations that will introduce fans to the new era of Call of Duty.

Steam players: The Final Judgement and Al-Asad Operator Bundles content are not available on the Steam platform, as Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard are not available on Steam. However, for players who pre-order on Steam, the content will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard on all platform accounts linked to the Activision account. Call of Duty: Warzone or Call of Duty: Vanguard game required, sold/downloaded separately. Follow the steps below to link accounts.


 

Digital Cross-Gen Editions for Consoles

 

Available for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Digital Cross-Gen Editions include the base game playable on both console generations within the same console family (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S). Digital Cross-Gen Editions give players the flexibility to play on multiple consoles and take advantage of potential upgrade options.

In addition to Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta*, pre-orders of a Digital Cross-Gen Editions will also include additional rewards that will be announced at a later date.

Please note: When installing the game on a next-generation console, be sure to install the next-generation version of the game, as both versions may be available for download in this Cross-Gen Bundle.

PC Standard Edition

 

The PC Standard Edition is only available digitally and can be pre-purchased through Battle.net and Steam.

Players who pre-purchase a PC Standard Edition will get Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta* as well as additional rewards that will be announced at a later date.

Physical Editions on Consoles, including CODE Editions

 

Physical Editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II can be pre-ordered for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. All Physical Editions on consoles include Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta* when pre-ordered at participating retailers.

  • Xbox Cross-Gen Edition: Includes a cross-gen version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II playable on Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
  • PlayStation 4 Cross-Gen Edition: Includes a cross-gen version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II playable on PlayStation 4 and unlocks a free digital upgrade to play on PlayStation 5. 
    • Please note: The game disc will be required to play the PlayStation 5 version.
  • PlayStation 5: Includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, playable on PlayStation 5 only.

CODE Editions

 

The CODE Edition, available exclusively through select retailers, is a specially-marked Physical Edition that includes a Call of Duty Endowment-themed Calling Card, Animated Emblem, and Sticker for use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

This Call of Duty Endowment bundle will be available for immediate use on October 28.

Please note: Physical editions of the game will not operate on a digital-only PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S.

 

Vault Edition

 

Available on all platforms, the digital-only Vault Edition offers the most content of any version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

In addition to the base game – Cross-Gen Bundle version on consoles, Standard Edition on PC – and Early Access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta*, the Vault Edition includes the following bonus content.

Red Team 141 Operator Pack

 

Includes four playable Multiplayer Operators: Ghost, Farah, Price, and Soap. Each Operator comes equipped with a custom-made masked outfit themed around the legendary mercenary Ghost.

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will be able to use the Red Team 141 Operator skins during the Beta.

FJX Cinder Weapon Vault §

 

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will be able to use the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault during the Beta.

Details about the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault and the new Gunsmith will be revealed closer to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II's launch.

One seasonal Battle Pass and 50 Tier Skips ‖

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will gain access to one season of the Battle Pass and 50 Tier Skips (or its equivalent) at launch.

Players who purchase the Vault Edition after Season 01 can apply the free Battle Pass and Tier Skips to the current season.

Ghost Legacy Pack

Instantly unlock 12 Operator Skins for the Ghost Operator and 10 Assault Rifle Weapon Blueprints for use in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).

Steam players: The Ghost Legacy Pack content is not available on the Steam platform as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Call of Duty: Warzone are not available on Steam. However, for Steam owners of the Vault Edition, the content will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) on all platform accounts linked to the Activision account. Call of Duty: Warzone or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) game required, sold/downloaded separately. Please note that the content may take up to 24 hours to distribute to your account. Follow the steps below to link accounts.

Red Team 141 Ghost Operator

 

Players who pre-order the Vault Edition will receive a code to redeem the Red Team 141 Ghost Operator for use in Call of Duty: Mobile’s Multiplayer and Battle Royale modes.

A redemption code will be sent to your Call of Duty: Mobile in-game mailbox after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II launches on October 28. Please allow up to two weeks after launch for your code to be delivered.

Please note: the Vault Edition must be pre-ordered on a platform using an Activision account that is also linked to Call of Duty: Mobile.

2XP Bonus

Players who purchase the Vault Edition will receive 10 hours of Double XP Tokens and 10 hours of Double Weapon XP Tokens for use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. XP Tokens will be waiting for you and available to use in-game at launch.

How do I link a Steam account to an Activision account?

I have an Activision account.

  1. Log in to your Activision account on callofduty.com.
  2. Hover over your account name at the top of the page and select LINKED ACCOUNTS.
  3. Select Link Account next to Steam.
  4. Enter the Verification Code that will be sent to the email address associated with your Activision account.
  5. Select Link Account next to Steam.
  6. You will be redirected to Steam to log in to your Steam account.
  7. After logging in to Steam, you will be redirected to your Activision account with your accounts linked.

The Ghost Legacy Pack content will now be available in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on accounts linked to the Activision account. Call of Duty: Warzone or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game required, sold separately.

 

I don't have an Activision account.

  1. Go to the login page on callofduty.com and select the Steam icon. 
  2. You will be redirected to Steam to log in to your Steam account.
  3. You will be redirected back to callofduty.com to create an Activision account.
  4. Create an Activision account using the same email address as your Steam account.
  5. Once your Activision account is registered, your Steam account will be linked to it.

The Ghost Legacy Pack content will now be available in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on accounts linked to the Activision account. Call of Duty: Warzone or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game required, sold separately.
