Using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with an Activision Account

An overview of the two-factor authentication security feature for Activision accounts, including how to set it up and what to do if you have any issues

Add an extra layer of security to your Activision account by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA). This security feature requires a second step to verify your identity before accessing your account, providing greater protection of your account and personal information.

1. How does 2FA work?

Each time you log in to your Activision account, you will be prompted to enter a security code generated from the Google Authenticator app after entering your email address and password. The Google Authenticator app generates a new code every 30 seconds, which means a different security code will be required every time you log in to your account.

2. How do I set up 2FA?

Follow these steps to set up two-factor authentication.

  1. Download and install the Google Authenticator app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Log in to your Activision account.
  3. Go to the PRIVACY & SETTINGS section.
  4. Select ENABLE TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION.
  5. Check your inbox for a validation email, and enter the code provided to confirm you’re the owner of the account.
    • Please note: If you’ve made other changes to your account that required account validation, you will not need to confirm account ownership again within the same login session.
  6. Open the authenticator app and tap the plus (+) sign.
    • On desktop: Tap Scan a QR code and scan the QR code with your smartphone or tablet.
    • On a device: Tap Enter a setup key and enter the Manual Entry Key.
  7. Tap ADD ACCOUNT in the authenticator app.
  8. Enter your Activision account password, then enter the 6-digit authentication code from the authenticator app (listed under Activision).
  9. Select Activate to complete the setup.

After setting up 2FA, you will be given ten backup codes to use if you can't access the Google Authenticator app.

Be sure to keep your backup codes somewhere safe but accessible. Since the backup codes are mainly used when you cannot access the Google Authenticator app, it is recommended you keep your backup codes somewhere other than on your device.

3. What should I do if I can't access the Google Authenticator app? Do I use a backup code instead?

Yes. If you're ever unable to access the Google Authenticator app (e.g., you lose or misplace your device), you can log in to your account using one of the backup codes you received when setting up 2FA.

Enter your email address and password, then enter one of the backup codes where you would normally enter the security code generated from the Google Authenticator app.

For security reasons, you may use each backup code one time only.

4. What should I do if I run out of backup codes?

If you need to use your last backup code to access your account, you should disable and then reenable 2FA in order to get a new batch of backup codes.

If you run out of backup codes, you will need to reach out to us for assistance.

5. What should I do if I enter a 2FA code but still can't access my account?

The security codes generated by the Google Authenticator app expire after 30 seconds. Be sure you are entering a security code generated after entering your password and has not expired.

If you continue to have issues accessing your account, please reach out to us for assistance.
